Paragliding as a Senior

I first tried Hang Gliding in 1996 on a small field in Towaco, NJ and can still taste that first flight off the bunny hill. Fastforward to Oct. 09 (then age 65) and a tandum flight with JohnG at Wellfleet. Knowing that the way to learn is to Kite,Kite,Kite I called Jeff and bought a used wing over the phone. What a Guy. Then came lessons with Heath at of course Morningside. What a perfect site to learn and improve your skills. It’s my home base and I look forward to going back, always!

Zip Line at Morningside!!!

This is going to be a great addition to our already exciting flight park. Now you’ll still be able to get your feet off the ground when the weather isn’t flyable=)

Bathroom Face Lift!

If you’ve been here to see us, you have probably noticed all the improvements being made to our building! We’d like to thank everyone for all of the hard work that is getting done around here. One of the most exciting projects is the renovations to the woman’s bathroom. It looks great, and is even complete with a vanity! Come up, fly, camp out and make this part of your second home.

Morningside is now officially open for the 2012 season! We are busy with many exciting upgrades and new adventures to our park. Come see us and realize your dreams of flying like a bird. We are excited to announce that you can now make reservations for Hang Gliding and Paragliding Lessons online! You will now see a “Reserve Online!” button on Hang Gliding and Paragliding Lesson pages. Just click that button to begin the reservations process. It is easy to do and completely secure. Of course, if you feel more comfortable making a reservation over the phone you can do still do so at (603) 542-4416. Isn’t it nice to know when you get the urge to fly at 3AM you can go online and book your lesson?

I was first turned on to HG in the late 80′s at Aeolus in Groton, MA. A friend then brought me to Morningside and sunk the hook in deeper. I was there every flyable weekend (and lots that weren’t) for the next couple of years. Bought me an ’89 PacAir VisMkIV 17′ from Jeff Nicolay and flew my butt off the 450 like a madman. I fell for a local woman and kept getting back to The Cape just in time for work Monday mornings. We even drove up there from our house in Virginia, kids and dog in tow, to get married in a ceremony on the 450 launch hilltop (barefoot, flowers in hair) since we met at the park and it sounded romantic. I remember that the greatest thing about the scene there wasn’t the flying- it was the fliers. Camping at my favorite site. Firetrucks show up because the bonfire could be seen from Vermont. WAY in Vermont. Guitars and singing and the odd whiskey bottle making it’s way around the fire after the kiddies fell asleep. Sharing “There I was, thought I was gonna DIE” stories and laughing our butts off. Phil Haynes grabbing his set-up wing from the hangar and hobbling his way off the 450 into glass air way after dark- damn near invisible until his silhouette crossed over the Coke machine near the LZ. Seeing the same awesome people every weekend and looking forward to the next weekend coming. Having H3 skills but still having only a H1 rating because I was too busy having fun to bother getting tested.
Too much to be able to enter here, really, but you get the idea.

Meet Morningside’s new manager

We’re excited to announce that Heath Woods –a local pilot from VT — has been named manager of Morningside Flight Park.

Heath brings to the position a strong base of knowledge and experience in free flight instruction (at Morningside), recreation management (as ski patrol director at Mount Snow Ski Area), teambuilding, and community outreach. Heath has learned from and apprenticed with some of the most respected names in the sport, both in the US and Europe. Heath has been “hanging” around at Morningside since he got his Hang 1 here back in 1995. Since 2006, he’s been teaching paragliding here and abroad.

Heath believes in Morningside’s potential and is committed to preserving its long and storied history, tapping into it’s vastly experienced community of pilots, and bringing the latest instruction techniques and free flight technologies to grow Morningside and hang gliding and paragliding as sports.

Join us all in welcoming Heath into this new and important role at Morningside: A Kitty Hawk Kites Flight Park!

Claremont Local’s Appreciation Night
